Medical Student
Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine - Las Cruces
Ojeni Touma is a third-year medical student at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is originally from San Diego, California where she earned her biology degree from San Diego State University. The value of higher education was instilled in her from a young age, and an early interest in medicine led her to pursue a career as a physician. Working along the San Diego-Tijuana border helped her realize fulfillment in caring for patients facing health disparities such as language barriers, limited access to care, and unsafe living conditions. These challenges resonated with Ojeni’s experiences as a member of the Arab American community, which she remains committed to uplifting through volunteering, advocacy, and leadership.
Ojeni currently serves as the Committee Lead for the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons- Medical Student Section Research Committee as well as a research mentor for the Osteopathic Research Initiative for Growth and Innovation in Surgery (ORIGINS). She has authored and co-authored publications in basic science and medical education as well as presented research at the International Society for Stem Cell Research, American Academy of Osteopathy, with upcoming presentations at the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, and American College of Surgeons. Outside of medicine, Ojeni thoroughly enjoys spending time with family and staying active outdoors, especially slacklining, camping, and being in the ocean.
