Ben Rezny, DO, MA, FAAEM is a board-certified intensivist in Anesthesia Critical Care, Neurocritical Care, and Emergency Medicine. He currently practices in a combined medical/surgical intensive care unit at Ascension Health and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Rezny serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he is also the ICU Rotation Director for both the Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine residency programs. He additionally holds an adjunct faculty position at Des Moines University. A graduate of Des Moines University, Dr. Rezny completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and his Anesthesia Critical Care fellowship at the University of Iowa. His clinical practice focuses on the critical care of cardiothoracic and neurosurgical post-operative patients, including experience with mechanical cardiac support and complex multisystem management. He has played a key role in developing new cardiovascular and neurosurgical ICU programs through collaborative, multidisciplinary efforts. Dr. Rezny works closely with surgical teams to co-manage critically ill patients, emphasizing a team-based approach that aligns surgical goals with critical care best practices to optimize outcomes. His philosophy blends evidence-based protocols with patient-specific adaptation, ensuring precision in high-acuity care. He also prioritizes transparency, shared decision-making, and emotional support when guiding families through critical illness. His research includes publications on anticoagulation protocols in ECMO and comprehensive reviews of extracorporeal life support (ECLS), reflecting his ongoing commitment to advancing critical care science and practice.
