Hannah Cornwell is a student of osteopathic medicine at Pacific Northwest University (PNWU), class of 2027, who is deeply committed to providing care to underserved communities. Her journey began as an EMT and medical scribe in rural California during her undergraduate studies, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges posed by inadequate healthcare in underserved areas. These experiences inspired her to pursue a career in medicine, with a focus on returning to rural practice and adopting an integrated approach to healthcare. Her medical interests are centered on surgery and emergency medicine, though she is eager to explore a wide range of specialties during her clinical rotations. Hannah has demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills, serving as President of the Pre-Medical Society at Cal Poly Humboldt and as President of the PNWU Surgery Club and Vice President of the PNWU Women in Medicine Club. In these roles, she has fostered relationships among students by collaborating with other club leadership to promote hands-on opportunities that cater to students with diverse medical interests. Additionally, she has been a student ambassador at both Cal Poly Humboldt and PNWU, where she represented her peers and supported prospective students. Hannah's dedication to research is evident in her work at both Cal Poly Humboldt and PNWU, as well as during a research internship at Stanford University in her gap year. There, she co-authored a book chapter and ran optimization studies. Since starting medical school, she has also joined the SOMA Research Committee and the ORIGINS program. Her commitment to community involvement extends beyond the classroom. Hannah volunteers at a culinary medicine cooking class in downtown Yakima, where she earned a culinary medicine certification through the NIHC. As part of this initiative, she collaborated with fellow students to lead a health-focused cooking class at a women's rehabilitation center.
