Priya Shah, BS, is a second-year osteopathic medical student at Kansas City University with a strong foundation in neuroscience and public health. She graduated from Saint Louis University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a minor in Public Health, where she first developed her interest in bridging basic science with clinical applications. Following graduation, she conducted research at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston, Massachusetts. During her two years there, she studied central serous chorioretinopathy and contributed to multiple case studies on retinal injury, experiences that strengthened her skills in both clinical research and scientific communication. Currently, Ms. Shah works under the mentorship of Dr. Sharon Larson in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, where her research examines surgical outcomes in robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS), video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), and open lobectomy. Her projects focus on complications and conversion rates, with the broader goal of improving surgical safety and patient outcomes. Through this work, she has become particularly interested in how emerging surgical techniques can reduce morbidity while maintaining oncologic efficacy. Looking ahead, Ms. Shah aspires to pursue a career that integrates clinical practice with research in academic medicine, with an emphasis on advancing surgical innovation and patient-centered care in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. Outside of medicine, she is passionate about mentorship, enjoys traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
