Dr. Gerard A. Baltazar DO FACOS FACS OMT is a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon and an assistant professor of surgery for NYU Langone Health. He attended Georgetown University where he received the Howard Hughes Medical Research scholarship, the John Carroll emerging leader scholarship and a degree in biology and fine art. He obtained an osteopathic medicine degree from Touro University California, receiving awards for Community Service and Student Life. After surgical residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City where he received multiple research awards, Dr. Baltazar finished surgical critical care fellowship at Rutgers University in Newark, during which he won the national Oriens Award. He served as the Director of Surgical Critical Care at SBH Health System for critically underserved Bronx communities before matriculating to NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island. Dr. Baltazar's academic interests include osteopathic manipulative treatment for trauma victims and chest wall injury operations. Dr. Baltazar has created continuing medical education programs and lectures regularly on a range of surgical and wellness topics. He is the Vice President of the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society and an active member of the ACOS and Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Baltazar has received research and leadership awards from the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, an NYU Faculty Scholar appointment, a Daisy Team Award for "extraordinary compassion and skill" and the 2025 Medical Educator of the Year Award from NYSOMS. Dr. Baltazar challenges himself to be a little better every day and to develop a work-life balance through which he can enjoy quality time with his wife, two young daughters, other family and friends. To pay forward his experiences, Dr. Baltazar volunteers to mentor medical students, residents, and young attendings and to support healthcare missions in the developing world.
