Arun K. Singhal, MD, PhD, FACS, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Trained as a thoracic surgeon at the University of Iowa, he performs the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery, with a clinical focus on coronary artery bypass grafting, thoracic transplantation, and aortic surgery.
Following seven years in private practice, Dr. Singhal returned to academic medicine. His experience in private practice, where the emphasis is on clinical care, reinforced the critical importance of surgical quality in modern practice. This perspective has shaped his mid- to late-career goals, which center on gaining a deeper understanding of the drivers of quality in surgery.
Currently, Dr. Singhal is focused on developing clinical research with direct applications to patient care. His research group has a particular interest in artificial intelligence applications in aortic disease.
