Andrew is a first-year resident in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of North Carolina. A native of Texas, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 2017, where he was a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. In 2020, he earned his master’s degree from Georgetown University. He went on to receive his osteopathic medical degree from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was recognized as the 2025 National Student Researcher of the Year by the AACOM and COSGP.
During medical school, Andrew conducted research with surgeons pioneering the innovative Partial Heart Transplantation operation, and he continues to pursue research in cardiac surgery. He is passionate about enhancing surgical education for medical students. Andrew is the founder and now serves as the Resident Advisor for the Osteopathic Research Initiative for Growth and INnovation in Surgery (ORIGINS) Program that is committed to connecting medical students with academic surgeons to complete research as well as educate students on research fundamentals so students can start their own research endeavors at their respective institutions.
Andrew has authored more than 30 publications, with work appearing in high-impact journals such as Nature Reviews Cardiology, JAMA Surgery, JAMA Cardiology, and the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. Outside of medicine, he enjoys time with his dog Radar, renovating his home, and working on his Ford Mustang.
